How to Solder an electrical wire

To solder two electrical wires together effectively, follow these steps:

  1. Prepare the Wires: Strip about 1/2 inch (1.3 cm) of insulation off each wire using wire strippers. Ensure the exposed ends are clean and free of oxidation or dirt.

  2. Twist the Wires: Twist the exposed wire ends together tightly. This provides a solid mechanical connection and makes soldering easier.

  3. Apply Heat to the Wires: Use a soldering iron heated to the appropriate temperature (around 350–400°C or 660–750°F for most applications). Place the tip of the soldering iron under the twisted wires to heat them evenly.

  4. Add Solder: Once the wires are hot, touch the solder to the joint (not directly to the iron). The heat will melt the solder and allow it to flow into the strands, creating a strong electrical connection.

  5. Inspect the Joint: The solder should appear shiny and smooth, fully covering the exposed wires. Avoid using too much solder, which can create weak or bulky joints.

  6. Let it Cool: Allow the solder to cool naturally without disturbing the joint.

  7. Insulate the Connection: Use heat shrink tubing or electrical tape to cover the joint and prevent short circuits.

Tip: Always work in a well-ventilated area and use proper safety gear, like safety glasses. Clean the soldering iron tip regularly with a damp sponge or brass cleaner for the best results.

What should I do if I crack my iPhone?

If you have dropped your iPhone and smashed the screen. The following are options you may consider for replacing it yourself:

1. If you have AppleCare, you may be able to get it fixed or get a replacement through Apple.
2. Another option is to take it to a company that fix cracked screens. The problem with this approach, however, is you have no control over what your original screen is replaced with, or how well the repair is carried out. Both replacement screens and workmanship are variable. If you know someone who has had an iPhone screen replaced and they're happy with it, go for that. If not, do some research before you hand over your iPhone.
3. You could, of course, replace the screen yourself. All you need is a replacement front panel, LCD, and a lot of luck . Keep in mind that this sort of DIY job will void your warranty and it's unlikely to result in a pristine iPhone. On top of that, the quality and cost of the replacement of a front panel/LCD varies enormously.
4. A preferred option for repairing is to take the iPhone to one of our two stores and book an appointment. Given the cost and unpredictability of repairing the screen yourself, we will fix it at a reasonable price.
5. Another option, particularly if the screen is cracked rather than totally smashed, is to do nothing. If you can still use the iPhone, there's no real reason, other than cosmetic, to repair or replace it (use a screen protector to save your thumbs from getting nicked).
6. Finally, get protection. If your case doesn't have protection for the screen, buy a separate screen protector and use it. That way, the next time you drop your iPhone, the result might not be so catastrophic.

Water Damage Tip

The idea of submerging your iPhone into a bag of rice will only help push the drying process from drying faster. After examining several iPhone’s and iPod Touch’s brought in for repair, I soon discovered that the idea of leaving your iPhone in a bag of rice increases the damage due to corrosion. Further more, the rice can only observe water and leaving chemical reaction with soldering or leading to create even more severe corrosion, which in result, creates a short. In essence, the correct way to repair your iPhone with water damage is by getting the liquid and corrosion out as fast as possible - seeking professional help is strongly recommended at this point. The faster you bring your water damage iPhone to us, the stronger are your chances of getting your iPhone to a complete recovery.

In breif, the rice can only help to make your iPhone get dried faster, and the chance to get it recovered depends on how much water and where the water touched to your logic board.
